Delivering Outstanding Care for Our Communities

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is beginning a major modernisation of its services and its buildings. Our dual objective is to develop and deliver outstanding NHS services that are fit for the future, and to play a greater part in the growth and development of our local economy. This long-term, modernisation programme will see the investment of hundreds of millions of pounds over the course of the next ten years and will involve every one of our public and private sector partners.

We have been developing this programme for some time and we can begin work now because the Department of Health & Social Care has allocated seed funding to the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust to develop a Strategic Outline Case for significant government resources.

Today the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is rated GOOD by the Care Quality Commission. It is well-led, caring, safe and responsive and the outpatient and diagnostic imaging services are rated OUTSTANDING.

Yet despite these excellent ratings our hospital buildings have a significant backlog of maintenance problems and severely restricted space. Many of our buildings are no longer completely fit for purpose. The hospital layout is far from perfect with wards and diagnostic areas that are distant from each other meaning that privacy can be compromised as patients are moved around the hospital.

We now need your views and your ideas.

We have an opportunity to develop a masterplan, or blueprint, for an amazing hospital, designed and organised from the ground up. This is our opportunity to create a great hospital for local people, delivering great care and treatment, and we want our staff, patients, partners and local communities to help us design it. We want this new hospital to be built with the real needs of patients and staff firmly in mind. We want their expertise, experience, and ambition to flow through the design of our new hospital.

We believe our new hospital will be better if we are Building Berkshire Together.
